Ft. Worth, Texas – The Jackets took two games on Tuesday night against the Roos of Austin College by the scores of 15-10 and 5-4 in a non-conference, neutral site game, at All Saints High School.
Game One
A game that ended in quite the shootout, thanks to 9 total errors, started very one sided as the Jackets went up in the 2
nd, 1-0, thanks to a
Keldon Crawford double that scored
RJ Roberts.
HPU added 6 more in the 3
rd which started with a
Noah Payne solo shot.
Manny Torralba had an RBI triple that scored
Nolyn Box and
RJ Roberts, then later in the inning,
Keldon Crawford had an RBI single that plated Torralba.
The Roos pulled closer after putting up 2 in the 3
rd and 1 in the 4
th inning making the score 7-3.
The Jackets began to pull away again after a 3 run 5
th thanks to a
Joshua Gerig double that brought home
Cade Varrichio,
Noah Payne and
Sam Bosher making the score 10-3.
AC would have a huge 5
th inning to fight within one run at 10-9, and they would tie it up in the 6
th 10-10.
The Jackets are no strangers to scoring late innings runs, though. So when
Noah Payne led off with a walk,
Joshua Gerig bunted him over to set the Jackets up with a runner on 2
nd and only one out. After a
Ty McCain single moved Payne to 3
rd, there was no more need for small ball after
RJ Roberts roped his third double of the game to score Payne and pinch runner,
Seth Heupel. Torralba then added one more on an RBI single that scored pinch runner
Johnny Cravey.
RJ Roberts led the Jackets at the plate going 3-4 with 3 doubles.
Manny Torralba and
Joshua Gerig both had 3 RBIs for the game as well.
HPU had a staff day that was started by
Graham White tossing 3 innings and giving up 2 hits and 2 runs while striking out 2.
Kory Owen got the win going 1 inning giving up 2 hits and striking out 2.
Game Two
The second game of the Tuesday night doubleheader came down to the bottom of the 7
th, something else the Jackets are very familiar with.
HPU struck in the 1
st when
Rylee McGee tripled
Keldon Crawford home, and an
RJ Roberts SAC fly brought McGee in to put the Jackets up 2-0. The Roos and Jackets would trade shots after that and find themselves locked at 4 heading into the bottom of the 7
th.
RJ Roberts walked with 1 out to start, then
Jacob Salazar worked a long at bat into a walk to move the pinch runner,
Seth Heupel over to 2
nd base.
Manny Torralba came up and also walked to load the bases for
Noah Payne. Payne hit a ball hard and deep enough into center field to safely bring Heupel home on a walk-off SAC fly, his 2
nd walk-off of the season.
Rylee McGee led the Jackets going 2-2 with a walk and an RBI.
RJ Roberts also added 2 RBIs of his own.
Another committee of Jackets found themselves on the mound beginning with a solid start from Conner Lowe. He dealt 2 innings giving up no hits and walking 1.
Xavier Haines vultured the win going 1 inning, giving up 2 hits, 1 run and striking out 1.
The Jackets improved to 17-9 on season, staying at 11-1 in the ASC. They will be home at Don Shepard Park this weekend hosting Sul Ross State in a conference series starting on Friday. The first pitch will be at 2:00 pm.
