Billy Wayne Scoggins of Ballinger lettered four years in football for the Yellow Jackets. He was named First Team Little All-American as a center, First Team All-Texas Conference twice as a center and a linebacker and Second Team All-Texas Conference once. After graduation in 1950, Scoggins worked in Ballinger, Comanche, Gatesville, San Angelo, Burnet, and Sonora. He coached for over 40 years and was awarded Texas Coach of the Year at Ballinger High School in 1955 and at Sonora High in 1971. Scoggins coached two state semi-finalist teams and won a state championship with San Angelo Central High School and a co-state championship at Sonora. As a defensive line coach at Baylor University, the Bears won the 1974 Southwest Conference championship under Grant Teaff. After retiring from football in 1976 to enter private business until 1979, he returned to San Angelo where he retired in 1992. He died in 2009.
