Terry Cosby was recruited to Howard Payne out of Milford High School for his talents on the football field and track field events. He was a tight end and kicker for the Yellow Jacket football team, but his most notable collegiate athletic talents were in track’s weight events. Cosby won the shot put at the Lone Star Conference meets in 1976 and 1977 and was the discus champion in 1977. He earned NAIA All-American honors in the shot put and discus in 1977 as well. He also won the coveted Oscar Strahan Most Valuable Player Award for most outstanding male athlete in track and field. After graduating from Howard Payne in 1977, he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, where he received a master’s degree in divinity. Cosby pastored many youth groups, missions, and churches across Texas in his 44 years of ministry. His longest tenured service was at Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church as founding pastor in Weatherford, First Baptist Church of Hereford and his last post at the time of his death in 2019 at White Bluff Chapel in Whitney.
