Ted Hobby came to Howard Payne from Chilton High School to play under Coach Glen Whitis. He was a guard on the 1961-62 team that won the Lone Star Conference co-championship and went to the NAIA National Tournament. He was team captain and All-LSC in 1964. Hobby also played tennis, finishing second in singles in the conference in 1964. After graduation in 1964, he served as assistant basketball coach at Howard Payne and head basketball coach at Van Vleck High School before going to work for Amoco Chemical. He died in 2019.
