Ray Glasscock of Sonora was a standout two-way player on three Howard Payne Texas Conference Championship teams in 1928, 1929 and 1930. He was named all-conference center in 1929 and 1930 and was co-captain his senior year. In 1928, with Glasscock playing guard, the Yellow Jackets were undefeated in Texas Conference play. In the 1929 championship season, Howard Payne tied SMU 13-13 and beat Texas Tech 14-0. Glasscock also ran the 440-yard run and was on the relay teams in track. He graduated in 1931 with a degree in mathematics and coached at Comanche High School. Glasscock was also a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a teacher and coach at San Angelo Lake View High School for 37 years. He died in 1996.
