Pat Cagle of Birmingham, Ala., played four sports at Howard Payne – football, basketball, baseball and track. He earned three letters in football, playing quarterback, guard and end; one letter in basketball; and ran the mile in track. He worked on the Lasso yearbook and was a history major. After graduation in 1929, Cagle was principal and coach at Comanche High. He coached Brownwood High from 1935-40, compiling a 31-21-3 record. He went into private business after coaching at Brownwood and served as a school board trustee and referee. In 1946, he became president of First State Bank of Comanche. Cagle also was president of Durham Peanut Company and former chairman of the National Peanut Council. He was a former president of the Howard Payne Alumni Association.
