Tim Pavlas transferred to Howard Payne in the fall of 1997 after playing golf at Sam Houston State University. The Bryan native played three seasons for the Yellow Jacket golf team and was Honorable Mention All-America in 1998 and 2000. Pavlas finished second in the American Southwest Conference individual championship in 1998, shooting 222 over three rounds. That performance earned an invitation to the NCAA Division III national championship tournament. In 1999, he won the ASC tournament by shooting 213, 3-under par. He shot 228 to claim the 2000 ASC title, earning a second invitation to the NCAA Division III national tournament. During his time at HPU, he led the men’s golf team to two third-place ASC tournament finishes. Pavlas was a member of Zeta Chi while attending Howard Payne. He graduated in 2000 with a degree in business finance and works in banking in Bryan.
