Kristy Lyons is the first Howard Payne female basketball player to lead her team to four straight winning seasons, from 1999-2003. The social work major from Wills Point had career averages of 13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.7 steals per game. She scored 1,302 points in her career, which at the time put her in fifth place for HPU women’s basketball players. Lyons also set school records for steals in a season with 74 and 263 for her four-year career. She finished her career in the HPU top five for most field goals made (477), most free throws made (328), most career assists (373) and most assists in a season (109). She scored the second- most points in a game in Howard Payne and American Southwest Conference history – 46 – vs. Mary Hardin-Baylor on Feb 2, 2003. She was ASC Freshman of the Year, first team ASC All-West Division four times, Concordia Classic all-tournament three times and Most Valuable Player at the Rowan Invitational. She was team captain for two seasons and ASC Player of the Week three times.
