Edward O. Daniel of Brownwood played end for the Yellow Jackets for four years and was selected All-Lone Star Conference in 1963 and 1965. He served as captain for two years and set career pass receptions record that stood until the mid-1980s. Daniel was the second graduate of HPU’s Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom. He returned to HPU after earning a master’s degree from Texas A&M University to serve as assistant director of the Academy of Freedom and assistant professor of government. He also earned a Ph.D. from North Texas State University. Daniel later moved into the financial industry and was a sought-after humorous speaker. He also served on the HPU Board of Trustees.
