Robert Woods of Cameron was a two-time NAIA All-American linebacker at Howard Payne. The four-year letterman also was named to the All-Lone Star Conference team three years and in 1973 was named to the Outstanding College Athletes of America list. Woods was named to the LSC’s All-Decade Team and the LSC’s Silver Anniversary list of 75 football athletes. After graduating in 1974, he was drafted in the eighth round of the NFL-AFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and in the 18th round by the Houston Oilers. Woods went into coaching and in 1990 won a state football championship at Wilmer-Hutchins. He was named the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame Coach of the Year that year. He also coached at Crowley, Cedar Hill, Dallas Thomas Jefferson and worked in athletics administration in the Dallas ISD.
