David White of Rising Star joined the Howard Payne baseball team in its second year of existence as a three-sport standout in football, basketball and track, including a state championship in the pole vault. In his four years at Howard Payne, he was named All-Conference four times, All-NAIA District 8 once and Most Valuable Player once. He was an All-American candidate and part of the 1992 conference championship team. White set four HPU career batting records with 667 at-bats, 147 runs scored, 244 hits and 164 RBI. After graduation in 1994, White went to Tarleton State, earning a Master of Education and serving as an assistant for the baseball team. He coached one year at Godley High School and returned to HPU as an assistant baseball coach, helping lead the 1997 baseball team to the conference championship. White then moved to Cisco Junior College as head baseball coach and has been there for more than 20 years.
