Doug Holtzclaw holds the Howard Payne record for longest interception return for a touchdown – a 93-yard scamper against Tarleton State as a senior in 1967. Holtzclaw, from Dumas, was an All-Lone Star Conference defensive back in 1967 and lettered three out of four years. He came to Howard Payne as a quarterback and moved to defense. In track, Holtzclaw ran the 440-yard hurdles and was on the sprint and mile relays. He graduated in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in history and religious education and earned his master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor at Goldthwaite Baptist Church from 1978 until he retired after 43 years in the ministry.
