George Hine served for 16 years as sports information director at HPU from 1965-1980 and also was the assistant vice president for development and publicity and vice president of public relations during that time. He was posthumously inducted into the hall of fame after his death in January 2010. A U.S. Army veteran, Hine served during World War II in the U. S. Army Engineer unit in the European and Pacific theaters. He held a lifetime membership in the Disabled American Veterans. After the war, he enrolled at Hardin-Simmons University and received B.A. and M.A. degrees. Hine was inducted as a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame and the Texas Baptist Public Relations Association Hall of Fame. He also was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Hine received honors from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and was a member of the "Personalities of the South."  After leaving Howard Payne, he worked at Houston Baptist University for seven years before retiring. Hine also was a member of the Early Chamber of Commerce and served on the Early City Council.
