Truett B. Little of Putnam was a five-sport star at Howard Payne in the early 1930s. He played football, basketball, golf and tennis and ran track. He was named Howard Payne’s best All-Around Athlete in 1933, playing center and fullback in football, forward in basketball, pole vault in track and golf and tennis. Little was president of his senior class and after graduation in 1934, received his master’s degree in physical education from North Texas State. He was coaching in Dublin when he resigned to join the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the battle of Guadalcanal in the Pacific. He also coached at Odessa High, Seagraves, Mexia, Throckmorton and Seymour. He later went into the oil leasing business in Abilene and died in 1992.
