David Harrison was a member of the Yellow Jackets’ 1976 Lone Star Conference championship team and an NAIA and Associated Press All-American. In 1977, as the LSC’s leading scorer and free throw champion, he was named First Team All-LSC in 1977 and voted the Most Valuable Player in the Lone Star Conference and NAIA Region 4. He averaged 26 points a game during his two years at Howard Payne after transferring from Cooke County Community College. The Fort Worth Trimble Tech graduate served as HPU assistant coach starting in 1984 and became head coach in 1989, serving until 1993. Harrison had a 54-56 record as head coach and won the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with a 22-7 record in the 1991-92 season. His teams also made the NAIA District 8 playoffs three straight times.
