Carl Arnspiger of Brady was a four-year letterman in tennis at Howard Payne, winning the Texas Conference doubles championships in 1929, 1930 and 1931. He was captain of the tennis team as a junior and senior. He graduated in 1931 with a bachelor’s degree in English and went on to teach distributive education and coach tennis at Brownwood High School for 30 years. His Brownwood teams won seven state championships. Arnspiger, who died in 1977, was inducted posthumously into the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame in 1982, followed by his induction into the HPU Athletics Hall of Fame.
