Danny Faubion played on the Howard Payne basketball team that won three Lone Star Conference championships and competed in the NAIA National Tournament under Coach Glen Whitis. Faubion was recruited by Whitis from Talpa-Centennial, where he was an all-state basketball player. Faubion was a two-time team captain and still holds the Howard Payne record for best free throw percentage in a season – 91.2% in 1966-67. As a senior, he received the Wall Street Journal Achievement Award for business students competing in athletics. Faubion is a second-generation Howard Payne basketball player. His father, C.E. Faubion, played for the Yellow Jackets in the late 1930s.
