The 1962 graduate of Castlemont High School in Oakland, Calif. spent one year at New Mexico State before transferring to Howard Payne in 1967. He became an All-American for HPU in 1969 and 1970. In 2006, he was named one of the top 75 male and female basketball players to ever play in the Lone Star Conference. During his career, Davis scored 2,026 points, including 883 points 1969-1970 and 861 in 1968-1969 for the top two scoring seasons in HPU history. His career scoring average of 28.5 points per game and 797 career field goals also are all-time HPU records. After leaving Howard Payne, Davis was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the 4th round (65th overall) of the 1970 NBA draft. He  went on to play professionally in the Philippines and then in Belgium for seven seasons. In Belgium, Davis led his league in scoring for three seasons. After retiring from pro basketball, he coached in that international league for four years before going to work for a beverage distributor in California for 20 years.
