Brooks Dozier of Brownwood lettered in both football and basketball and went on to coach basketball at every level from Class A to college. At Howard Payne, he was Second Team All-Texas Conference as a running back in 1948 and honorable mention in 1947. He played forward on the basketball team that upset the Southwest Conference’s SMU Mustangs 57-56 in 1949. After graduation in 1951, he was basketball coach at Sul Ross State University and coached at Henderson, Ozona, Irving MacArthur and Nacogdoches high schools. Dozier also served as an official for the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and as a board member of the Texas High School Coaches Association. Dozier was inducted into the Howard Payne Athletics Hall of Fame posthumously. He died in 1986.
