Houston Wedeman of Matador played football, basketball and was a standout weight man on the track team. In football, he was voted All-Texas Conference as an end in 1934-36 and was on the Little All-American team in 1936. He played on the 1934 Texas Conference Championship football team. Wedeman won seven Texas Conference track and field medals and set a record in the discus that stood for 20 years. He also threw the shot put and javelin and ran on relay teams. In basketball, he played guard and lettered as a senior. Wedeman served in the Marines during World War II, attaining the rank of captain. After completing his military service, he worked for Swift Dairy and Poultry Co. for 40 years in San Antonio, Fort Worth and Brownwood, where he retired. He died in 1997.
