HPU Athletics Hall of Fame
Kate McLaughlin played 151 softball games for Howard Payne, amassing a school record 153 hits. The Brock High School graduate had 82 RBI and 59 walks in her 406 at-bats for the Lady Jackets. During her senior season, she led the team to its best record in school history, 29-11. She played in all 40 games that season and had 57 hits, 45 RBI and 83 total bases – all HPU records. Her .460 average in 2009 is HPU’s all-time best. McLaughlin also still holds HPU records for runs scored in a game (five), total bases in a game (10), hits in a season (57) and RBI in a season (45). She was named the American Southwest Conference West Division Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, received multiple ASC All-West Division honors and was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region selection as an outfielder. McLaughlin graduated from HPU in 2009 with a degree in exercise and sport science. After graduation, she worked in the medical field.
